I’ll keep this short. The title and subtitle above are the opening lyrics to Pink Floyd’s “Shine on You Crazy Diamond.” Great song from a great album (Wish You Were Here.)
I was moved to post these lyrics by yet another AARP magazine cover. You might recall that I was recently shocked, horrified and depressed that Brooke Shields was on the cover of AARP’s monthly missive.
This month, it’s a guy who might have preferred to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
Oh wait. He was. On May 21, 1987:
That’s right. Jon Bon Jovi has crossed the Rubicon from Rolling Stone to this month’s AARP:
I’ll say this: Like Brooke, he looks great. And I think he can still sell a few concert tickets, so good on him.
But seriously, AARP: These covers are soul-crushing.
How about next month you just put a picture of a beach with some palm trees on the cover? That’s what I want to think about when I think of my golden years, and NOT People Magazine’s “Sexiest Celebs of 1988” list, in their dotage. And I’m still waiting for that feature on the best compression socks.
